Public transportation, scooters, parking, carpooling… Today, the Californian giant is taking a new step by offering its users the possibility to book train tickets. Zoom on this new association that was announced in the last press release of Trainline.

A feature only available in the UK

A great first for Google Maps! Indeed, from the beginning of October, users in the UK have the possibility to buy their train tickets. In one click, they are redirected to the Trainline application or website in order to finalize their transaction. A deep-link integration that aims to promote the rail offer. Currently, Trainline offers 80% of the rail offer in Europe. With over 270 rail and coach operators in 45 countries.

We’re thrilled to be partnering with Google to make train travel even more accessible, seamless and intuitive for people searching how to get from A to B. Working together in this way means we can encourage more travellers to choose rail over other less sustainable forms of transport.

A seamless experience with Google Pay

Another point to highlight is the possibility for Android users to register their ticket directly in Google Pay. A choice of a country not insignificant. Indeed, as stated on the Trainline website, in 2018, “More than 50% of their ticket sales in the UK were for the first time, tickets on mobile.” With the introduction of the UK’s most advanced rail voice AI. Namely, the Trainline voice app with Google Assistant.

As commented by Alan Stapelberg, Global Product Manager, Google Pay, “Bringing together Google Maps, Google Pay and Trainline gives users a seamless way to search for, buy and save train tickets using their Android phone. This will save users time and effort, while allowing them to easily store a ticket on their phone. We are excited to bring this experience to Europe for the first time with Trainline in the UK. Currently, the latter has no iOS version planned at the moment.
